Terms of Service

Welcome to BridgeLDR ("we", "our", or "us"). These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the BridgeLDR mobile application (the "App"). Our Privacy Policy is part of these Terms and explains how we handle your data.

By creating an account or using BridgeLDR, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the App.

1. What BridgeLDR Is (and Isn't)

BridgeLDR helps couples stay emotionally connected, especially across distance. It gives you tools to chat, share moments, check in on each other, and keep track of the things that matter in your relationship.

It is not a substitute for professional counselling, therapy, or crisis support. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please contact your local emergency services or a helpline. We built this to support connection — not to replace the real conversations that matter most.

2. Who Can Use BridgeLDR

To use the App, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Provide accurate information when creating your account.
  • Use the App in a lawful and respectful way.

If we learn that someone under 18 has created an account, we will delete it.

3. Your Account

  • You sign in with your email address using a one-time code (no passwords to remember).
  • You are responsible for keeping access to your email secure — that's your key to BridgeLDR.
  • You are responsible for everything that happens under your account.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

4. Using BridgeLDR With a Partner

BridgeLDR is designed for two people in a relationship.

  • Invitations — You invite your partner by entering their email address. Only invite someone who has agreed to join. By sending an invitation you confirm that you have a reasonable basis to share that person's email with us.
  • Shared content — Some content you create (events, memories, gifts, visits, topics) can be marked as "shared" and will be visible to your partner. Other content stays private to you. You choose.
  • Bond prompts — Both partners respond before either side is revealed. This is by design — it keeps the experience fair and honest.
  • "Thinking of You" — These are lightweight signals (a gentle vibration, an animation). Only the signal type and timestamp are stored.
  • If your partner leaves — When a partner deletes their account, you'll be notified. Shared content between you may be removed or become inaccessible. Your own private data is not affected.

We are not responsible for the dynamics of your relationship or the interactions you have within the App.

5. Your Content

You may create and share various types of content — messages, photos, audio recordings, check-ins, Bond responses, memories, events, gift ideas, visit plans, conversation topics, and more.

You own your content

We don't claim ownership of anything you create. Your words, photos, and recordings are yours.

You give us permission to host it

By using the App, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to store, process, and display your content — solely for the purpose of providing the App's features to you and your partner. We won't use your content for advertising, marketing, or any purpose unrelated to the service.

If you delete your account, we delete your content as described in our Privacy Policy.

You're responsible for what you share

Make sure you have the right to share any content you upload (e.g. photos you took or have permission to use). Don't upload content that belongs to someone else without their consent.

6. AI Features

BridgeLDR includes optional AI-powered features:

  • "Help me say this" — suggests alternative phrasing for a message you're writing.
  • AI suggestions — analyses recent chat to surface potential gift ideas, events, visit plans, memories, and conversation topics.

What you should know:

  • AI features are entirely optional. You can use BridgeLDR without them.
  • AI outputs are generated automatically and may not always be accurate or appropriate. They're starting points, not answers.
  • Nothing is saved unless you confirm it. Every suggestion requires your explicit review before it becomes part of your data.
  • The AI does not understand the full context of your relationship. Please use your own judgement.
  • AI processing uses OpenAI's API. Speaker identities are anonymised before being sent. See our Privacy Policy for full details on what data is shared and how.
  • The AI cannot evaluate your relationship, provide therapy, or give medical advice.

You are responsible for how you use AI-generated suggestions.

7. Acceptable Use

We want BridgeLDR to be a safe, respectful space. You agree not to:

  • Harass, threaten, abuse, stalk, or intimidate anyone.
  • Use the App to manipulate, pressure, control, or monitor another person.
  • Share illegal, sexually exploitative, violent, or abusive content.
  • Upload content that infringes on someone else's intellectual property or privacy.
  • Attempt to access other users' accounts or interfere with the App's systems.
  • Use the App for any unlawful purpose.
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the App.
  • Use automated tools (bots, scrapers) to access the App.

We reserve the right to restrict or terminate access for violations, without prior notice if the violation is serious.

8. BridgeLDR Plus and Subscriptions

BridgeLDR may offer optional paid features under the BridgeLDR Plus subscription.

  • Billing — Purchases are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play), depending on your device. BridgeLDR does not store your full payment card details.
  • RevenueCat — We use RevenueCat to validate purchases, keep your entitlement in sync across installs and devices, and present subscription and restore flows in the App. RevenueCat does not receive your relationship content (such as chat or memories). See our Privacy Policy for details.
  • Auto-renewal — Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel before the end of the current billing period. Your store account is charged according to the plan you select (for example monthly or yearly) and the pricing shown at purchase.
  • Managing or cancelling — You can manage or cancel a subscription in your Apple or Google account subscription settings. Deleting your BridgeLDR account does not by itself cancel an active store subscription.
  • Restore purchases — If you reinstall the App or change devices, you can use Restore purchases in Settings to restore an active BridgeLDR Plus entitlement tied to the same store account.
  • Refunds — Refund requests are handled by Apple or Google under their policies. BridgeLDR cannot issue store refunds directly.
  • Changes — We may change subscription features, pricing, or availability where permitted by applicable law and store rules. Material changes will be communicated as required by the relevant app store or law.
  • Free features — Parts of BridgeLDR may remain available without a subscription. Subscription features are described in the App at the time of purchase.

9. Intellectual Property

The App — including its design, code, graphics, animations, prompts, and brand — is owned by BridgeLDR and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. These Terms don't transfer any of our intellectual property rights to you.

You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works based on the App without our written permission.

Your content remains yours (see Section 5).

10. Third-Party Services

The App relies on third-party services to work, including:

  • TalkJS — real-time chat
  • Supabase — database, authentication, storage, and server-side functions
  • OpenAI — AI-powered suggestions
  • Sentry — crash and error reporting
  • Expo / EAS — push notifications and over-the-air app updates
  • Firebase Cloud Messaging & Apple Push Notification Service — push delivery
  • RevenueCat — subscription and in-app purchase management for BridgeLDR Plus
  • Apple App Store & Google Play — in-app purchase and subscription billing when you buy BridgeLDR Plus

These services have their own terms and policies. We integrate them carefully, but we can't guarantee their uptime or behaviour. We are not liable for outages, data handling, or issues caused by third-party providers, though we do our best to keep everything running smoothly.

11. App Updates

We may update the App from time to time — to fix bugs, improve features, or address security issues. Some updates are delivered over-the-air (via Expo Updates) and may install automatically. By using the App, you consent to receiving these updates.

We may also release updates through the App Store or Google Play that require manual installation. We recommend keeping the App up to date for the best experience.

12. Termination

By you: You can stop using BridgeLDR at any time. You can delete your account from Settings → Account → Delete account. See our Privacy Policy for what happens to your data.

By us: We may suspend or terminate your access if:

  • You violate these Terms.
  • You misuse the App in a way that harms other users or the service.
  • We are required to do so by law.
  • We discontinue the App (we would give reasonable notice if this happens).

13. Disclaimers

The App is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind — express or implied — including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We do not guarantee:

  • That the App will always be available, uninterrupted, or error-free.
  • The accuracy, completeness, or usefulness of AI-generated suggestions.
  • Any particular outcome in your relationship.

BridgeLDR is designed to support connection — it's a tool, not a promise. How you and your partner use it is up to you.

14. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, BridgeLDR (including its founders, employees, and affiliates) shall not be liable for:

  • Any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages.
  • Relationship outcomes or emotional distress.
  • Loss of data, content, or profits.
  • Actions taken based on AI-generated suggestions.
  • Service interruptions or third-party provider failures.

Our total liability for any claim arising from your use of the App shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim (if any). If BridgeLDR is free, this amount is zero.

Your use of the App is at your own discretion and risk.

Note: Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitations of liability. In those cases, the limitations above apply only to the extent permitted by law.

15. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless BridgeLDR and its founders, employees, and affiliates from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from:

  • Your use of the App.
  • Content you create or share through the App.
  • Your violation of these Terms.
  • Your violation of any third party's rights.

16. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the App shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation first. If we can't resolve it informally, disputes shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in the State of Delaware.

17. Privacy

Your use of the App is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, and protect your data:

Please read it — it's written in plain language and covers everything from what your partner can see to how AI features handle your chat.

18. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make significant changes, we'll let you know through the App (e.g. an in-app notice).

The "Last Updated" date at the top will always reflect the latest version. Continuing to use the App after changes are posted means you accept the updated Terms.

19. General

  • Severability — If any part of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest remains in full effect.
  • Entire agreement — These Terms (together with our Privacy Policy) constitute the entire agreement between you and BridgeLDR regarding the App.
  • No waiver — If we don't enforce a provision of these Terms, that doesn't mean we waive our right to do so later.
  • Assignment — You may not assign or transfer your rights under these Terms. We may assign ours in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with notice to you.
